This workshop will present the history, theories and components of play therapy as a model to work
therapeutically with children, adolescents and families. Theories covered will include psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, humanistic, Ecosystemic Play Therapy, family therapy and expressive arts. Learning will be both didactic and experiential. This training meets one or more of the requirements for basic play therapy education to be a Registered Play Therapist.

Maria:
Maria Laquerre is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, who specializes in addressing trauma with clients of all ages. Maria became a Registered Play Therapist in 2015 and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor in 2018. Maria enjoys utilizing play therapy techniques with children, teens, adults and couples, as she sees the power of play throughout the lifespan.
Maria has practiced therapy in New Mexico since her return in 2008. Maria's current passion is supporting therapists in doing their best clinical work, which she pursues through offering supervision, consultation and trainings. Maria enjoys spending time with her family, watching Star Wars and Marvel movies, discussing the psychology of pop culture and loves a good book!

Play therapy credit may not be awarded to non-mental health professionals.
Training Objectives
Participants will examine and identify at least 3 different theoretical approaches to the practice of play therapy
Participants will describe at least 2 precautions for working with children in play therapy.
Participants will describe and practice at least 3 evidenced-based play therapy interventions.
Participants will demonstrate at least 2 directive play therapy strategies that support therapeutic change within the play therapy session.
Participants will explain at least 2 differences between directive and non-directive play therapy approaches.
Participants will demonstrate at least 2 non-directive play therapy strategies that support therapeutic change within the play therapy session.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
A New Hope Therapy Center’s Cancellation and Refund Policy will be as follows to assure consistency and is applicable to all trainings offered by A New Hope Therapy Center.

Registrations canceled on or before two weeks prior to the event is refundable but subject to a $25 administrative fee.

Registrations canceling with less than two weeks will not receive a refund. The refund and cancellation policy will not be waived. Registration fees may be transferred to another individual for the same event.

In the event A New Hope Therapy Center must cancel the conference due to unforeseen circumstances, A New Hope Therapy Center will refund the cost of registration. However, A New Hope Therapy Center does not assume responsibility for any additional costs, charges, or expenses; to include, charges made for travel and lodging.
