After graduating with my bachelor's degree in Child and Family Sciences from NMSU in 2003, I went on to obtain my master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of New Hampshire in 2005. I returned to Las Cruces and worked as a therapist in a variety of settings, including inpatient residential settings, community-based mental health agencies, and school-based health centers. Since 2008, I have provided clinical supervision to support other therapists in obtaining their licenses and have been the clinical director for three organizations, including Tafoya and Associates. In 2017, my husband and I purchased Tafoya and Associates, renamed the group to A New Hope Therapy Center, and began expanding our services to Las Cruces and the surrounding areas.
I understand the need for the best clinical care in our community and am passionate about supporting this need for local therapists through supervision, consultation, and local workshops for therapists and counselors.
If you are looking for a therapist who is experienced, compassionate, and dedicated to helping you reach your goals, please contact A New Hope Therapy Center today. We would be honored to help you on your journey to healing.
Clinical Director
Jessica Cauthorne, LCSW, RPT
she/her/hers
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I’ve spent well over a decade helping and empowering people who struggle with depression, anxiety, and unresolved pain from their past. I have worked with a diverse population, including the LGBTQIA community. I have a down to earth approach, and I do not believe in “one size fits all” treatment. My view of therapy is that, while people often share a collective identity, each person's story and struggle are unique. Therefore, I always tailor my approach to meet the specific needs of each client. I’ve helped children, adolescents, adults, couples and families to break the chains of the past and move forward into healing, courage, and exciting new possibilities.
I have been a program manager, a clinical supervisor, and a permanency planning supervisor with Protective Services. I have extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Play Therapy and I utilize art therapy and sand tray interventions for those who enjoy exploring such options. I have also supervised clinical interns while working in an inpatient psychiatric setting. As a supervisor my goal is to help each individual grow into the clinician that they are meant to be. Through positive support, case staffing, mentoring, encouragement, and a healthy dose of humor, we will work together to move you toward your professional goals.

I am a native of New Mexico and a graduate of NMSU, from which I obtained a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and Guidance in 2008. I have fourteen years of experience as a Licensed Mental Health Professional providing mental health care in a variety of settings (inpatient psychiatric care, hospital emergency departments, college academic/career advising, public school school counseling, and private practice). I have the privilege to support diverse populations within our community and I am a proud LGBTQ+ advocate who provides affirming mental health care.
In my private practice work, my special interests include working with those experiencing perinatal/postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, anger, chronic pain, phase of life, identity, and self-esteem issues. I also have experience providing professional training with an emphasis on self-care, compassion fatigue, burn out, and practical application of ethical competencies.
My approach to clinical supervision is a collaborative and transparent experience in which we work together to achieve your professional goals while supporting your best clinical work.
In addition to supervising master level clinicians, I also teach graduate and undergraduate courses for the Counseling and Educational Psychology Department in the Health, Education, and Social Transformation College at NMSU.

Currently, I am pursuing a dual Master’s Program in Public Health and Social Work at New Mexico State University. I am driven by my passion for making a meaningful impact in the field of community health and wellbeing.
I am dedicated to promoting social justice within our community, tirelessly working to support and empower marginalized communities. My advocacy passion shines through my active participation in local LGBTQ events, where I strive to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all. By collaborating with various community programs and initiatives, I have been able to drive impactful change and foster a sense of unity and support.
